AMI Semiconductor Announces Enhanced Commitment to Environment with ``Green'' Packaging

    Business Editors/Environment Writers/Technology Editors

    POCATELLO, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 14, 2005--

Industry Leader to Provide Packaging for All Products in Line with
Environmental Friendly Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
    Standards

AMI Semiconductor (Nasdaq:AMIS), a designer and manufacturer of state-of-the-art integrated mixed-signal and structured digital products, today announced an enhanced commitment to the environment by offering "Green" or RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant packages in accordance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) global environmental standards initiatives to replace lead-based packaging in the manufacturing process.
In a global environmental awareness effort, AMIS has completed the product qualification process and is now offering lead (Pb)-free Green product packages.
"This is a large and very important step in the continuous effort to support customer and market demand to implement environmental-friendly production materials," said Walter Mattheus, chief operating officer for AMIS. "AMIS has been a long time supporter of environmentally-friendly manufacturing solutions, including the lead-free initiatives, and we see the legislation and standardization of lead-free and RoHS compliant packaging as a necessary and good business measure that provides added value to our customer."
Green packaging is free of lead, halogenated compounds and antimony oxides, and provides an alternative to standard, lead-based packaging. A product is lead-free if no lead-bearing materials have been introduced or used into the manufacturing finishing process.
Educational information about converting to Green or RoHS packaging, including some of the risks commonly associated with the transfer to tin-based packaging can be found on the AMIS Web site at: www.amis.com.
